WITH production capacity of 3m metric tons per annum which is enough to meet demand for the domestic market, Mtwara based Dangote Cement Company is now target East African Community market.

Baki said its cement brands of 32.5R and 42.5R are retailing at 10,000/- and 10,500/- per bag 50kgs bag respectively.

Dangote which started production last November has already made an impact in the market where cement prices are beginning to drop from the usual prices of between 12,500/- and 13,500/- to about 12,000/- on average.

Baki said he is optimistic that consumers are taking advantage of the factory’s price reduction to get the product and build affordable better houses.
“The investment made by Dangote in this state of art cement plant is quite huge.
The plant has enough capacity to carter for local cement needs while the excess will be exported to neighbouring countries within East Africa,” Baki said.

Nigerian billionaire Alhaj Aliko Dangote has invested US$ 600m in the plant which employs over 1,500 people directly.

A source from the Cement Manufacturers’ Association of Tanzania said the arrival of the Dangote Cement plant would help to curb imports, but the lower prices applied by the company would make other manufacturers to consider lowering the price as well.
